Lullaby
Words and Music by
Tom Waits/Kathleen Brennan,
Album: Blood Money (2002),
Original instrumentation: Vocal,
acoustic guitar, cello, 2 violins
Instrumentation (vocals, piano) and
interpretation of cover-version: Markus Lorber
Sun is red, moon is cracked
daddy's never coming back
nothing's ever yours to keep
close your eyes, go to sleep
if I die before you wake
don't you cry, don't you weep
Nothing's ever as it seems
climb the ladder to your dreams
if I die before you wake
don't you cry, don't you weep
nothing's ever yours to keep
close your eyes, go to sleep
Remark: When I heard the song the first time, I
was totally thrilled and I wanted to take it
into my live-program. Only accompanied by the
guitar, I was missing the sentimental, bearing
feeling of the strings. So I rearranged the song
for piano-accompaniment only, which keeps major
elements of the original guitar and strings.
